TSCL Senior Survey?

Medicare Prescription Drug Benefits

About 44% of TSCL members lack prescription drug insurance, but adding prescription drug benefits to Medicare may not be the final answer, say our members, especially if the premiums are more than they can afford. Approximately 30% of TSCL members would be willing to pay an additional Medicare premium of $24 a month to receive the prescription drug insurance plan proposed by President Clinton. Of those who would be unwilling to pay the extra monthly premium, 56% said the $24 monthly premium was too high, despite government assistance for those with incomes be4low $12,500 (single), $16,875 (couple).

Our recent Advisor survey found that TSCL members overwhelmingly favor legislation that would allow the importation of cheaper FDA approved drugs from Canada and other countries-89%. Another 84% feel that drug manufacturers should be required to offer the same price to Medicare recipients that volume buyers receive. A full 60% of those surveyed feel the federal government should control drug prices.
