TSCL Announces New Legislative Leadership

TREA Senior Citizens League (TSCL) proudly welcomes Virginia Torsch, as Director of Legislative Affairs. Torsch comes to TSCL after serving as Assistant Director of Government Relations for The Retired Officers Association (TROA). There, Torsch`s unwavering efforts to provide a meaningful health care benefit to Medicare-eligible members of the uniformed services community were successful. Last year Congress established the FY2001 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA provides a lifetime entitlement to TRICARE for service retirees, their family members and survivors. Torsch also advocated successfully for Congress to offer a TRICARE prescription drug benefit. Taken together, these initiatives are considered among the most significant improvements in military health care ever undertaken.

Torsch was recognized last year by Representative James Moran (D-8-VA) who said, `Torsch has been a leader in every sense of the word . . . Her health care contributions have made an indelible mark on the lives of millions of retirees that will benefit them for years to come.`

Torsch served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy`s Medical Services Corps from 1983-1990. She continues as an active drilling Reservist with over 18 years in combined active and reserve time.
