Who’s Defending Your Benefits at TSCL: Michael W. Plumer, Deputy Legislative Director

Expansion of the legislative agenda takes Mike Plumer before Congress, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, and federal agencies where he defends the earned benefits of TSCL members. Prior to joining TSCL, Mike was the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Assistant Director of Legislative Programs where he assisted FRA legislative efforts in Veterans Affairs and Guard and Reserve matters. He also became a registered Veterans Service Officer and represented members before the VA Board of Veterans Appeals.

A former native of St. Charles, Illinois, Plumer enlisted in the Navy in March 1969 and served continuously for over 23 years. His naval career as a Russian Linguist with the Naval Security Group included tours of duty in Scotland, Spain, Turkey, Diego Garcia, Guam and the National Security Agency in Maryland.

Upon retirement from Naval service he returned to Illinois where he received his Bachelors Degree in Communications Arts and Sciences from Western Illinois University in 1994. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Telecommunications from Southern Illinois University. Mike and his wife, Pennye currently reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
