Some Highlights of TSCL's Legislative Activities after the September 11th Attack:

  • September 21, 2001-Met with Representative Ralph Hall (D-TX) to discuss Notch reform after the September 11th attacks. Representative Hall expressed his commitment to Notch Reform, but temporarily suspended legislative action on "The Notch Fairness Act," H.R. 97 until 2002. His letter is posted on the TSCL web site at http://www.tscl.org/NewContent/101180.asp.
  • September 28, 2001-Met with Senator Blanche L. Lincoln (D-AR) to express support for her bill, S. 775, 'Geriatric Care Act of 2001' which increases the Medicare reimbursement rate for doctors who specialize in the treatment of seniors and makes more funds available for training in the geriatrics field.
  • Week following October 17, 2001-A year-end Advisor article by Senate Majority Leader Thomas Daschle (D-SD) was delayed when his office received the letter containing anthrax. See his belated article, "America Needs a Real Medicare Prescription Drug Plan" in the Jan/Feb 2002 Advisor.
  • October 29, 2001-TSCL joined the Assisted Living Workgroup, convened at the request of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. TSCL is participating in the Workgroup's affordability task force which is looking for ways to help consumers better afford assisted living and long-term care. A final report is due to the Committee by April 2003.
