Ask the Advisor: Why Notch Babies Should Go `Whole Hog`

I'm afraid that Congress will not have money for Notch Reform. They have too many "Pork Barrels" to handle. Considering how many are affected by the Notch, I'm wondering why someone doesn't pick up the pork barrel on Notch Reform. Notch Babies should promote votes for Notch Reform as "bringing home the bacon." In exchange, seniors can promote the candidate that does so at election time. -- J. & A.T.

Fom the editor:

Simple ideas like this one always have the greatest chance of success. This year every member of the House and one third of the Senate will be up for re-election. Surely they want to bring home the bacon for the Notch Babies in their Districts and states, an endeavor equally if not more worthy than some of the following:

Bacon Bits From the Government's fiscal year 2002 Budget:

  • $501,000 for noxious weeds for Montana State University weed program (Source: Senator John McCain, October 19, 2001.)
  • $500,000 for the Preble's meadow jumping mouse in Colorado (Source: Senator John McCain, October 19, 2001.)
  • $4.5 million for gasification of Iowa Switch Grass (Source: Senator John McCain, November 1, 2001.)
  • $1.5 million for Birmingham, Alabama to refurbish its monument to Vulcan the Roman god of fire (Source: Citizens Against Government Waste, November 8, 2001.)
  • $3 million in tax breaks for crop-dusters. (Source: "The New York Times," December 9, 2001.)
