Notch Reform Bulletin: TSCL Pushes For Vote on Notch Reform

“I was born in l926, and my husband in l9l7. He died in l999. He was in the USAF for 35 years, and served as a pilot in three wars. He was also a Notch Baby. The many years this situation has existed and has not been corrected is shameful. We were not illegal workers but American born citizens. It is obvious to all of us that correcting this travesty is stalled because it won’t be many more years before we have all passed on and this will no longer be a problem for our hardworking legislators who have no problem in awarding themselves a substantial raise.” — J. As of this writing, there are 106 Members of Congress who have pledged to support “The Notch Fairness Act,” H.R.97. This bill would provide persons born form 1917 through 1926 their choice of a $5,000 lump-sum payable over four annual installments of $1,125, or higher monthly benefits. Representative Ralph Hall, who introduced “The Notch Fairness Act,” agrees with TSCL that the time might be right to take the unusual step of forcing a vote on the House floor on H.R.97.

We have met with dozens of Members of Congress. Many assure us that they share our concern about the Notch, and some have even told us their own parents or other relatives are affected. We are asking these Members of Congress to help us ensure that a vote is held in the 108th Congress.

For this to happen, we need your help. Members of Congress MUST hear from you! Please contact your Representative and urge him or her to cosponsor “The Notch Fairness Act,” H.R.97 and to encourage the leadership to schedule a vote at the first opportunity. Please ask your Representative to support funding Notch Reform benefits rather than using the Social Security Trust Funds to send men to Mars, or to pay benefits to illegal immigrants.

We have a strong support with 106 cosponsors of Notch. With your help, let’s bring Notch Reform to the House floor for a vote in 2004.
