Torsch Joins TSCL as Legislative Director (Press Release) March 22, 2001, Alexandria, VA-Virginia Torsch has been named Legislative Director for TREA Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-profit lobbying group protecting the rights of senior citizens. Torsch comes to TSCL from The Retired Officers` Association (TROA) where she served as Assistant Director of Government Relations, Health Affairs, since October 1992. At TROA, Torsch followed health care reform legislation and assisted with the development and publication of TROA`s `Principles and Recommendations for Health Care Reform.` Prior to that, Torsch worked with the Strategy 2000 staff at the Paralyzed Veterans of America where she analyzed health care reform legislation and initiatives at the state and national levels. Additionally, Torsch served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy`s Medical Services Corps from 1983-1990. Her assignments included: assistant comptroller at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.; medical intelligence research specialist for the Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center in Fort Detrick, Md.; and as the assistant for fleet support in the Medical Operations and Planning Division of the Navy Surgeon General`s office at the Pentagon. `Health care reform is on everyone`s lips these days, but we need to ensure that change is not at the expense of the elderly,` remarked George Smith, chairman of TREA Senior Citizens League (TSCL). `Virginia`s knowledge of the myriad health care issues impacting senior citizens will enable TSCL to move our legislative agenda forward so that the voices of our members are heard and the rights of all senior citizens are protected.` Torsch is the recipient of numerous awards for achievement including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and three Navy Commendation Medals. She holds a bachelor`s degree in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a master`s degree in International Health from John Hopkins School of Public Health and Hygiene.
