Congressional Response: Senator Richard Lugar (R, Indiana) Responds To Your Notch Reform Petition

I appreciate knowing of support for the Notch Fairness Act.

I have long favored legislation to correct the Notch, and I have made this position clear to my colleagues in the Senate and to the Senate Finance Committee, which has responsibility for Social Security matters. I stand ready to vote for Notch correction legislation now and in the future.

The Senate Finance Committee will be considering comprehensive Social Security reform. In addition, President Bush has indicated he will form a commission to reform Social Security. The commission is expected to make its recommendations in the near future. As these events progress, I will carefully monitor the status of all Social Security reform measures.
