Congressional Response: Representative Virgil Goode (I, Virginia) Responds To Your Petitions

To: Responders of your petitions:

First, many of you have signed the petition in favor of the Notch Fairness Acts. I am a cosponsor of H.R. 97 and H.R. 853. The Notch Fairness Acts will provide a fair settlement to those born in the notch years. I have supported notch year reform in the past and continue to support it. I am honored to be a cosponsor of H.R. 97 and H.R. 853. I hope we continue to gain cosponsors and supporters for this legislation so that we may have an opportunity to bring it before the full house.

I also support a fair and accurate Social Security COLA. I believe that Social Security needs to be preserved and protected for our seniors and for persons with disabilities. I will gladly support legislation aimed at protecting Social Security and Medicare, including a fair and equitable COLA.

I also received some petitions from citizens participating in the TREA Senior Citizen League Survey about a voluntary prescription drug program. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that will give assistance to seniors with their prescription drug costs. This measure passed the House a few months ago. We need to get the U.S. Senate to follow the lead of the House.

Social Security Lockbox legislation is another measure that has passed the House. I voted for and supported Social Security Lockbox legislation. As your petition states, the U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly supported the Social Security Lockbox Bill. Again, we need to have the U.S. Senate follow the lead of the House.

The responses of petitioners to all of these issues are greatly appreciated. In the future, please send all written correspondence to my Rocky Mount office. I am uncertain as to when the mail situation here in Washington will improve.

With kind regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Virgil H. Goode
