TREA Senior Citizens League (TSCL) recently launched an aggressive new Notch Reform initiative. In what your League staff expects to be the first of many such meetings, Representative Walter Jones (R-NC) met with TSCL Chairman George Smith and your Board of Trustees. Congressman Jones gave the Board ideas on how to effectively move Notch reform forward in Congress and expressed his willingness to work with TSCL on Notch reform in the coming session.
Some 2,294 TSCL members reside in the district of Representative Jones. Underscoring the urgency of moving Notch Reform legislation in 2003 and protecting Social Security benefits, Representative Jones, who serves on the Armed Services Committee as well as Financial Services and Resources Committees, traveled from North Carolina to meet with TSCL even though Congress was out of session. With the upcoming release of a major new study on the Notch TSCL hopes to have similar meetings with many more Members of Congress.
