Protecting Your Earned Benefits at TSCL: Enthusiastic and Caring - Garlette Dunkley

It feels good to save a little money, doesnï¿½t it? Garlette Dunkley, TSCLï¿½s Member Services Coordinator, thinks so and is always looking for better discounts on products or services for our members. Among the most popular discount programs TSCL offers its members are Rx Savings Plus (for prescription drugs) and DentalPlans.com (savings at the dentist). In addition to being in charge of member benefits, Garlette answers most of the email that TSCL receives.

ï¿½Less out-of-pocketï¿½ is Garletteï¿½s vision for our members as she contacts companies about possible discounts on various products or services. Whether you need flowers for a loved one or products to help in your day-to-day life, she is incredibly enthusiastic when she talks about the possibilities. She imagines what her grandmother and other senior citizens she knows and cares about would want.

Garlette is always upbeat and positive even after spending countless hours negotiating with company representatives and lawyers. TSCL is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(4) citizensï¿½ action organization, and instead does not receive compensation from companies whose products/services we offer to our members. As such, TSCL is also limited as to what type of benefits can be offered. This can be especially frustrating to Garlette, who likes to give a discount to everyone on everything she can. And after a benefit has been established, thereï¿½s much follow-up work to be done to make sure that the companies deliver what they promise!

Garletteï¿½s name is unusual and there is some confusion for people who have never heard it before. You may be wondering, ï¿½Is she French?ï¿½ as one recent caller did. No, she is not. One of four daughters, her parents were expecting a boy when she was born. With no female name picked out, her parents took her grandmotherï¿½s suggestion and named her after her father ï¿½Garland.ï¿½

Born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, she currently resides with her 9-year-old daughter in Woodbridge, Virginia and is pursuing a degree in Management Marketing. Garletteï¿½s hobbies include reading, basketball, and tennis, helping out with projects at her daughterï¿½s school, and trying to find time to work out at the gym. TSCL is very fortunate to have her on our side.
