Congressional Response: Representative Max Sandlin (D-1st, TX) Responds to Your COLA Petition
For many seniors, their monthly Social Security benefits are their only, or primary, source of income. Seniors depend on an accurate cost of living adjustment (COLA) to their Social Security benefits to be able to keep up with the rising cost of groceries, utilities, housing and prescription drugs. The new Medicare law is expected to cause seniors to spend over 25% of their COLA just on increases in Medicare premiums! The rise in premiums will leave many seniors struggling to make ends meet.
I am a strong supporter of H.R. 4910, which will limit the amount of seniors’ Social Security benefit COLAs that can be taken away by Medicare premium increases. Be assured that I will continue to fight to make sure seniors get to keep their full COLA. Anything less is just not right.
